I read Lawrence's biography by Michael Asher and liked it.

Although there is no independent testimony, the multiple consistent reports, and the absence of evidence for outright invention in Lawrence’s works, make the account believable to his biographers. That same year he had a motorcycle accident and died 6 days after the accident.

In both Seven Pillars of Wisdom and a 1919 letter to a military colleague, Lawrence described an episode on November 20, 1917, in which, while reconnoitering Dera’a in disguise, he was captured by the Ottoman military, subjected to humiliating beatings and sexual assault at the instigation of Governor, or Bey. The precise nature of the sexual contact is not specified.

Thomas Edward Lawrence(1888–1935) known as T E Lawrenceand commonly referred to as Lawrence of Arabia, was an archaeologist, writer, and military commander, forever associated with the Arab revolt against Ottoman Turkish rule during the First World War.

Early life
Lawrence was born in Tremadoc, North Wales, He studied history at Jesus College, Oxford, and then worked as an archaeologist at various sites in the Middle East. That is racing fast, not amphetamines.
