That means we spent a lot of time with the rest of the ensemble, wrapping up numerous storylines with a series of devastating conclusions.
The following post contains spoilers for Severance 206, “Attila.”
There’s a new queer in Kier! Wherever he gets off that train, I hope he doesn’t waste the time he’s been given the way he did on the severed floor.
Severance’s Devon Has Always Been Queer, but It Took an Improvised Line To Tell Us
In this week’s episode of Severance, we learned that queer actress Jen Tullock’s character, Devon, is also queer, but in an interview with Parade, Tullock confirmed that even though it was only recently revealed, that has always been true of Mark’s sister.
Tullock says in discussions with creator and writer Dan Erickson, they had determined that as part of Devon’s backstory, she had dated people of all genders before meeting her current husband.
Let’s fucking go.
.
I imagine we’ve seen the last of Irving in Severance, and it’s fitting that Burt was the one who ensured he got a second chance. The scene mirrors one from season one, in which Burt and Irving’s innies decide they can’t engage in “fraternization,” and Irving says that he’s “not ready” to break Lumon’s rules.I’m already waiting around each week for Thursday to come, but now I’m eager as fuck to see her increasingly contentious relationship with Ricken unfold and see what role her queerness plays in her character development, if any.
It’s clear that one of the most-watched shows in the U.S. is getting more and more queer by the week. In its very essence, Severance is queer.
Given the three-year gap between seasons one and two, I can understand the worry that we’re going to reach the end of this season without having learned that much. There have been several character-driven episodes in a row and not much movement on the main mystery, and we’re one episode away from the show going on hiatus once more.
And, like many of our other favorite celesbians, Tullock shared the cutest Valentine’s Day post with her wife serving femme4femme cuteness.

So, what happened in “Attila” that has sapphic Severance fans so excited?
Last night’s Severance episode may have just confirmed what we’ve been anticipating: This show is gayer than we thought! There were moments that were eventually cut out, but in this week’s episode, Devon references Gabby Arteta, whose innie she met at a pregnancy retreat, and calls her the one she “had a crush on.” Tulluck says she improvised that line, and wasn’t sure they were going to keep it in, but is happy they did.
He’s been given orders to deliver Irving somewhere to be discreetly dealt with, as he’s done to many of Lumon’s enemies over the years.
While I sympathize with those who feel that Severance’s greater mysteries have been moving a bit too slowly, I do wonder if some viewers have gotten so fixated on the question of what the main cast is doing on the severed floor that they’re losing sight of these micro mysteries which help build out the world through the lens of the people in it.
In the end, all either version of Irving has is the image he’s formed in his mind of what a life with Burt could have looked like. In Episode 6, “Attila,” Burt, Irving, and Burt’s outie husband Fields all pontificated about whether or not innies and outies had distinct souls that could ascend to Heaven independent of what the other personality had done.
They chat about their pregnancies, reveal baby names and, while a bit awkward, share a nice moment away from their respective stress around their impending labor.
Later, Devon runs into Gabby at a park, both wearing their newborn babies. Aside from the excitement of having another queer in the show, it’s fun to watch Devon evolve from a severance skeptic to fully ready for a revolution.
But now the gay girls have their own little win.
Recently, due to the hype around Severance returning for season two, Jen Tullock got an influx of TikTok followers — much to her surprise. As he explains to Irving, he has been working with the corporation for many years, helping to disappear enemies of its interests.
