In 1990, the same year Brooks & Dunn was formed, Dunn and his wife Janine were married. He was starting Arista records with Clive Davis at the time.”

They obviously had no idea that it would become what it did:

“No, not a clue. He's also had his own successful solo career. We had nothing in common onstage.

They put out a new Reboot album with a different group of artists in 2024. to try and work it out," Brooks added, "but when he said, 'This is it, I really think it is,' I said, 'I think it is, too.'"

In fact, the log cabin that they stayed in, was found with the help of the Cashes.

This said, Ronnie shared that June Carter had warned Janine about getting involved with a musician.

"There was never a rift," Dunn told People.

But, in an earlier interview with USA Todayin 2009, the two admitted that they always had differences in opinion and that, eventually, compromise got to be too difficult. Successful is honestly putting it mildly. We’ve been through freaking miles of up and down, and mud, and running through the freaking daisies out there.

Just get over our BS.”

Ronnie stated simply:

“We tried to blow it real hard.”

Thankfully, it seems like it was just meant to be that they’d eventually work and sing together again, and they’re back on the road playing for fans doing it just like they always did.

Go do it, man.'" Indeed, the two have claimed there was no animosity between them and warned fans that they shouldn't believe the rumors, according to Taste of Country. It’s just, it’s crazy to look back on, even going through 2010 when we quit and meant it. It’s easy for me to look back on it, I think. "We [broke up] because we'd been doing it for over 20 years and felt like we'd accomplished everything that we could." Brooks agreed at the time, saying the two "ran out of gas" and just "needed a break."

However, the pair also told Larry King that they just saw their careers going in different directions.

There is a quietness and peace here that I can't find anywhere else."

While Ronnie Dunn will always be remembered for being a member of Brooks and Dunn, we can all be in awe that he is part of another amazing duo with his wife Janine.

Especially when Reba got involved, you know, we’d done a couple of big tours with her. But it didn’t take but a couple of years and a couple of gigs showed up and we never really lost that, whatever it is, that happens onstage. They’re back performing and being nominated for major country awards, but their relationship hasn’t always been perfect…

Fans have long speculated about how much Kix and Ronnie really “like” each other, but I think a lot of that stems from the fact that they’ve just been doing together for so long that they have had ups and downs, like with any long term friendship or relationship.

During a recent interview, they opened up about that and Ronnie said they “do like each other” and had magic right away when they first started writing together in 1990:

“We do like one another… just over time.

And it was through her late husband that Janine knew Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash, who helped the Dunns when they first moved to Nashville. At one point, the country music superstars said that their choice to retire was the result of a simple tapering off in their careers. He told Country Living in 2015, "We fish, we watch baby eagles fly, we have big family meals.

Not many artists at that point int heir career can even dream about being back at the forefront of the conversation for their own genre like Brooks & Dunn are now, but I appreciate their honesty about how it hasn’t always been sunshine and rainbows.

The fact that they wrote bangers like “Brand New Man” and “Next Broken Heart” proves that they were destined for country greatness that has thankfully lasted for decades.

“Brand New Man”

Ronnie Gene Dunn has been a successful country artist since the '80s.

We're still married with beautiful kids, and I'm still making music that I truly love."

Today, the couple who lived in a small log cabin at the start of Dunn's music career, now live on "The Barn." While Janine and Ronnie keep details of their relationship relatively private, Ronnie, on occasion, has given a glimpse of what life is like together for them on their 600-acre farm in Nashville.
