Analyse ‘fun’ in this world. Not true. “She’s saying he’s an incel.”

What does it mean to be “red pilled,” and what is the manosphere? Here’s what experts want parents, teens and educators to know.

What is the manosphere?

The manosphere is a digital collection of websites, videos and forums that promote male supremacy and advocate for traditional gender roles.

And nothing great is accomplished.

Co-founder and editor-in-chief of Reduxx, Anna Slatz, responded to Pearl’s misogynist take by saying she was “dropping another quarter in the ‘redpill is a psyop trying to make men homosexual’ jar.”

This same sentiment has been shared by many online commentators skeptical of the new manosphere movement, like Alexander of DatePsych, who said “the red pill is 95% daytime television tier gossip,” or Allie Beth Stuckey, who said “the line between the ‘red pill’ movement and homosexuality is so thin these days.

So, I can’t blame people for thinking that this messaging is meant to encourage men to go gay or just truly “go their own way.”

Here's what red pill, misogyny and other manosphere terms mean

In Netflix’s new mini-series "Adolescence," which follows a 13-year-old boy accused of murdering his classmate after becoming radicalized online, characters say Jamie Miller (Owen Cooper) is “red pilled.”

"The red pill is like, 'I see the truth.' It’s a call to action by the manosphere,” Adam, played by Amari Bacchus, says in the show about an Instagram comment.

(The original poster replied: "a very good sign, that's how they're referred to in those videos.")

Parents should also look out for terminology used in the manosphere.

This is why, in my reporting on scientific studies for Evie, I don’t make Pearl-esque assertions that misconstrue how humans actually operate.

Will that actually happen?

Closing Thoughts

Why disparage women for aging – as both sexes will? Archaeologists have found that some prehistoric women were so physically strong their upper arm strength was over a quarter stronger than today’s elite rowers who train for peak physical fitness.

"They're ancient working moms," said Brigitte Holt, an anthropologist who discussed these archaeological findings in an interview with NPR, adding that these women were likely "hoeing, planting, harvesting, chopping wood, grinding grain and getting water – and all this while raising small children."

Women in the Middle Ages in Europe were documented as being shopkeepers, midwives, blacksmiths, and even ironmongers.

Anti-Feminist Women Need To Watch Out for This Sexist Trap

Much of the advice pushed on women by red pill circles only further divides the sexes.

“Women are not prepared for work. Real men want to build. Should men work themselves to burnout, knowing that male suicide rates are dangerously high? Teenage years are a key time of experimentation when boys test out different personalities and behavioral patterns, according to pediatrics doctor Ran Anbar, the author of “The Life Guide for Teens.”

As a result, teenagers dealing with common physical or romantic insecurities may be curious about a variety of male internet creators, and inadvertently enter the manosphere through gaming or health spaces if they’re consuming content without a critical eye.

“Radicalization happens when you keep being exposed to the same idea over and over again, and you're not exposed to contrary ideas,” Anbar says.

Daly argues that understanding the underlying feelings of rejection, loneliness and emotional neglect that attract men to these groups is crucial for addressing the deeper issues fueling the ideology’s growing influence.

“When I first started I thought this was just a bunch of men being gross online.

It’s evil. This argument is as follows: Maybe if they grow so comfortable with male companionship, femininity becomes shallow and standardized, and rates of transgenderism are on the rise, then these men will prefer to satisfy their biological urges with womanfaced men. Society would function fine. In 2004, two men using the pseudonyms “Ragnar” and “Meagainstthestate” launched the first recorded MGTOW website, titled Men Going Their Own Way (now defunct).

“But in my research I’ve found that they’re more likely to harm themselves.”

According to Daly’s UT Austin study surveying 561 self-identified incels, approximately 75% met the criteria for moderate to severe depression, while 45% experienced severe anxiety. Daly warns Discord’s encryption complicates intervention.

The paradox, Daly says, is that while these online spaces often foster toxicity, they can also provide a place of comfort for Red Pilled men, as they realize that they are not alone.

Locally, the Red Pill conversation has been heating up in recent years as well.

These types of platitudes come from an unrelenting obsession with evolutionary psychology. But a finding that surprised her was the chances of them actually turning violent.
